Lot Details

Late Edo period. A jar of reddish- brown clay, fired dark brown on the base. Slightly concave base, flaring cylindrical walls, sloping shoulder, an articulated neck and thick ring lip. The shoulder set with five lug handles, four horizontal and one vertical; one horizontal lost. The exterior covered in a dark brown tenmoku glaze, dripping around the lower wall. Nine spur marks around lower wall. 33 x 35 cm. Loss of lug handle; loss of glaze to lip. Good.
